Time out

Winter sun

I've hit a blogging lull. I just can't get into it lately, so rather than mediocre drivel, I am taking a breather.

I will return. If you subscribe to me in a reader, you'll see when I show up again. If you don't, check back in a couple of weeks.

Until then, I will be out seeking inspiration...and whatever sun I can find in this still wintry country.

One more week

Water...of the frozen variety.

Spring can't come quickly enough. Things are thawing, but not fast enough for my liking. Hopefully the warmer temperatures promised for next week will speed things up.

Curses on you, Ferrero!

Seven months of ear problems and illness did little for my diet and exercise regime. And now that I'm finally getting back on track, the good folks at Ferrero have to tempt me with these...

I guess I can tell myself that they are predominantly yogurt, so they're good for me. Yeah, that's the story I will go with.

Turning the camera

When Ed announced that self portraits would be this week's Sunday Stills challenge, I cringed. Ugh. I'm always the person behind the camera, not in front of it. Heck, I even have a 'no face photos' policy for my blog.

But I'm a good sport. I'll play along with the best of them.

The irony of it all is that people often call me photogenic. And when I worked, I spent a fair amount of time with my face in print, even some appearances on television. But that was work, it's different. In general, I avoid time in front of a camera.

However, this week I got out my tripod and snapped a photo (okay, so I snapped a lot, trying to get a decent one). Here you go, Ed and the rest of the Sunday Stills gang...

The Cowgirl...more or less :)

Honesty is the best policy

Sometimes I take my 'free time' (the few hours a week that I have while Little Man is at school) to sit and have a coffee...and sketch. It's not really a place that you see people sitting and drawing, I usually get a few stares. Question - since when is it normal to sit and type away at a laptop in public, but not normal to take pencil to paper?

A major award!

I adore Karen over at Author Mom with Dogs. I remember when I stumbled upon her site. I had seen her name on a comment somewhere else and thought 'an author mom AND dogs?' Since I am a mom and a dog person myself, I had to see what she was all about. I wasn't disappointed. I've been a loyal reader ever since.

And now Karen has bestowed on me the honor of the Honest Scrap Award. I assume it's because she recognized my tendency to not sugar coat things :) In accepting this honor, I am to write ten honest things about myself. And after all, honesty is the best policy. Okay, I'm game. Karen, this is for you.

1. I lived on the ranch for 21 years...then I went away to college and have been a sort of nomad ever since. The longest I've lived in any one place since then is just shy of 3 years and I don't see this nomadic life changing any time in the near (or not so near) future.

2. I just had my birthday. I am 36.

3. While I love to cook, I hate to clean. I often adapt recipes to eliminate additional bowls, pots and pans. Does this make me lazy or inspired?

4. In some ways I am overly organized, in others I am completely unorganized. I think this makes me a schizophrenic organizer.

5. I love blogging, but am unwilling to join Facebook or Twitter.

6. Quitting my job and becoming a mother has given me more clarity on who I am than my career did.

7. Will I ever go back to work? Maybe. My first priority is to be there for Little Man. My second is to be there for my husband and not make his job any harder than it already is. If I can find a job that fits around those two things, then yes, I would start earning a paycheck again.

8. I started blogging at the beginning of 2007.

9. Even though I started blogging in 2007, it hasn't been on one single site. I have had 4 different blogs. Why? Frankly, it's an artistic struggle. (Stop laughing.) I started with a culinary blog, but stopped because of the horrible content theft and copyright issues associated with it. I began this blog, But Do They Have Coffee, last fall and honestly, I am not in love with it. So.........

10. I am actually considering dropping this blog and starting a new one...with a new pen name for myself as well. When? Where? Not sure yet. Only time will tell. But the reason is because continuity is one thing, however being true to your (artistic) self trumps that.

In accepting this award, I am also supposed to tag 7 more bloggers, but almost everyone I read has already received it (and H.E. threatened me if I did it to him). So I am not tagging anyone, but if you would like to take part, you can say that I tagged you and run with it!

Constant motion

When you're five, you're always moving.

(And yes, I got muddy taking this picture.)
