Unfinished masterpiece

Main gate at Neuschwanstein

It's hard to believe this is the entrance to an unfinished dream.

It seemed a fitting entry for this week's Sunday Stills challenge -architecture. Such a grand entrance, such a grand idea.

Poor King Ludwig. When he died, the construction on his beloved Neuschwanstein ended. Perhaps it's fitting that as a society we've used it as the embodiment of fairy tales, to give it a happy ending.

You can read more about King Ludwig and Neuschwanstein at my old blog by clicking here.

Great shot. It is just as fairytale-ish inside, too.

Man, that castle is amazing.

The castle was wrapped in a wet blanket of clouds when we were there, with a heavy mist dripping constantly upon us, so I don't have incredible pictures like yours. (Well, that, and you are a much better photographer!)
The finished and unfinished areas were totally fascinating. I actually liked Linderhof better, but it is a picture of Neuschwanstein than hangs in our home.

Beautiful shots. When we visited the entire place was fogged in. Fog was coming through the windows as we toured the castle. Very nice work. I think I had some photos of the doors and walls that came out that day.

Wow! Incredible pictures~ Castle's are so intriguing and have such stories to go with them.
Our son and his family live in Germany, so I've added this to our places to see when we come to visit!

French castles look so medieval compared to your fairy tale castle.

I love the connection you made between the unfinished dream and fairytales. But what a lovely unfinished dream it is.

Thank you all. I was lucky to catch the castle on a decent weather day. Just enough clouds to make for a good photo.

Cynthia: Hello! Thanks...we are all doing well now :)

Kcinnova: I actually liked Linderhof better too :)

Snooker: You still haven't been to see it? Get thee self down in this part of the country! :)
